GirlSongs Summer Songwriting Camp 2016 is Coming!

I'm so excited to announce this year's dates for my GirlSongs summer songwriting camp. This camp is a girls-only experience where we learn about the process of songwriting -- what makes a good song, how songs are structured, where to get inspiration, how we can write lyrics that make an impact, how we can write about things that are important to us, and how we can tell all kinds of stories through our songwriting. We do group and individual songwriting and at the end of the week, we make a recording of our pieces. We also spend time listening to music from all sorts of genres and discussing lyrics from these and from student-selected songs. We dabble in music theory, and students get one-on-one time with the instructor working on musical accompaniments for their songs (it's not necessary for a student to play an instrument, though, to attend the camp).

Why girls only?
The age groups for this camp are rising 5th through high school. In these age groups, teens and 'tweens often feel safer having the kind of discussions song analysis leads to and also sharing their own work in a same-gendered group. In addition, one of my goals as a songwriter and teacher is to empower girls and help them learn ways to express themselves when society at large is still trying to squelch many female ideas and issues! Anyone in the age group who identifies as female is welcome to attend! The camp is kept small -- 6 girls maximum per session -- so that everyone gets to know each other and we can make sure each girl gets individual attention.

GirlSongs Camp Information
You can get information about this year's camp by downloading the camp brochure (pdf) here.

The same information as well as the registration page is on my studio website: www.libbywiebelmusicstudio.com

And you can get updates, interesting articles, samples of student work, and more by following the camp's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/girlsongs

Camp dates are:
  • June 27-July1, 2016 (rising 5th – 8th grades),
  • August 15-19, 2016 (rising 8th – 12th grades)
  • 9am-4pm daily
Age ranges are somewhat flexible -- if you'd like to attend but your age category is filled or you can't make your particular session, just contact me, and we can discuss.

This camp brings so much joy to me, and I wasn't able to run in in 2015 due to surgeries I had over the summer. I am really looking forward to meeting a new group of girls and sharing with them something I hold so dear -- expressing oneself through music.
